OPERATION: BODY COUNT cheats and hints Note: All references to CDROM version are untested! Operation: Body Count --------------------- Similar to Wolfenstein-3D, but with advancements in the game engine. Terrorists have taken over the United Nations building in New York. You have been sent to kill them all. Some floors are blacked out. Try to find the power switch! The only points you can get are for killing things. Rats give 25 points while a terrorist gives 100. There's no bonuses. The sounds of the terrorists talking is REALLY annoying - you might want to turn the volume down a bit. Engine improvements and bugs: - Each floor has a power switch which controls the lighting level. - The most powerful weapon can destroy and damage walls. You can create new passages with it. - There's a floor map, press Tab to activate. It's the same map as in Corridor 7, so it can be left on while you play. - Normally the map only shows the nearby area. There's a card which is supposed to show everything but it doesn't work. - See-through walls, using glass, which you can break by closely firing at it. - Impact damage on the walls when you shoot. Walls on the other side of glass get damaged too, even if the glass stays intact. - You can't get onto the high score list if you cheat. - If you get too close to an enemy you may be unable to hurt him. Back off a bit then it should work. - Sometimes an inactive enemy can't be killed. You may need to bump into him to wake him up. - You don't need to kill all the enemies. Once the indicator changes from red to yellow you can level up by visiting the exit. - On some floors you get allies who are supposed to shoot enemies for you. But there's a major bug - their kills don't go into your total, so you can end up with nobody left and you can't level up. Best thing is to just kill your so-called allies at the start of the level and do the work yourself. - There are pushwalls just like in Wolfenstein-3D, but they can be largely ignored. - There are different types of doors. Some stay open, and some close themselves after a while. - You can get splattered with blood or green goo. Press W to clean it off. - There's a display of how many enemies you've killed, but without having a total to aim for, it's useless. - Booby traps (mines) and booby-trapped bodies. It will throw you back, but it doesn't take effect until you stop moving, even if it's at the other end of the floor. - DOSbox issue: The game has random problems with detecting the soundcard. - At each new level, some settings turn themselves off. Examples are the map, the brightness, and Invincible mode. Enable diagnostic mode. Then go back to the menu and ABORT GAME. Then LOAD GAME again, and press BS+G to become invincible. Now you can play without losing your score. How to get onto the high score list even when you cheat ------------------------------------------------------- On level 40, kill everyone you see before entering the security complex. There's 3 parallel passages with booby traps. Kill all the ape-shaped terrorists here. Now you will see a silver pushwall. Move up to it and save the game and quit. Use a hex editor to change the byte in the saved game at 0x56 from 1 to 0. Now start the game, do not activate any cheating, load the saved game. Press the pushwall, wait for the terrorist boss to appear (he has long straggly hair and a coat), kill him quickly, then wait again. Soon it will say VICTORY and you will be invited to enter your name onto the list. Last Update: 2024-06-15
